My writing has changed a lot over time, and I attribute most of that to the teachers I had. They helped me develop my writing skills and find my 'voice'.
This is my timeline:
I think the most notable points on my timeline would be the one's toward the end. My high school English teachers not only taught me how to write good essays, but they taught me how to enjoy writing. My Junior and Senior years I had a teacher named Ian Kutner. He is, and probably always will be, one of the best teachers I have ever had. And I'm not the only student from my school that feels this way. He made learning grammar fun. And he taught us how to express ourselves through writing. He also taught us how to write an essay in two hours and still get an A.

I always think high school English teachers are the most memorable teachers to have! I had a teacher name Ms. Holly Jordan and she was a young and super funny teacher! I had her for 3 of my 4 years and she really did have an impact on how much I have grown into writing! She sounds super similar to your high school teacher too!
ReplyDeleteI am noticing how important social relationships are in your writing history. I think mine has worked the same way. The people I write with and learn with have really shaped who I am as a writer today.
ReplyDeleteMy friend and mentor and colleague, Lil, is someone like that for me. She does this amazing job of cheering my writing on, but then after I have been working on something for a while (with lots of that cheering) she will really help me dig into my ideas and look critically at what I am saying to whom, about whom. She has really helped me see how much time it takes to work at writing.
Wow! A teacher who made learning grammar fun?!? You really did have a good teacher if they could do that! This assignment made me realize just how much of an impact my teachers had on me. It's pretty amazing, especially considering how much I would despise them at certain points when in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteWriting for me only started seriously in high school around tenth grade. My grammar improved drammatically in 11th grade due to my hard, but rewarding teacher.
